Custom Dog Portrait Paintings | Los Angeles Acrylic Artist
Hand-Painted Custom Dog Portraits in Acrylic
Every dog has a personality all their own, and that's exactly what I love to capture. I'm Emma, a Santa Monica-based acrylic painter specializing in custom dog portraits that are as unique as your pup. Each portrait is painted by hand on wood panel or canvas, with paint wrapped around the edges so it's ready to hang the moment it arrives.
I can paint any breed, any size, and any vibe — from a dignified golden retriever in a bow tie to a scruffy terrier just being their chaotic little self. Want to add a hat, outfit, or accessory? That's my specialty! Commissions are available for pet owners across Los Angeles and nationwide.

How to Commission a Custom Dog Portrait
Getting started is easy — here's how the process works:
1. Send me an email. Head to my contact page and tell me what you're envisioning. Let me know your dog's breed, the size you'd like, and whether you want any clothing or accessories added. The more detail the better!
2. Share your photos. I'll need 2–3 high quality photos of your dog, ideally with them looking straight at the camera and in good natural light. The better the reference photo, the better I can capture their personality.
3. Confirm the details and pay your deposit. Once we've agreed on all the specifics, I require a 50% non-refundable deposit to get started. This secures your spot in my commission queue.
4. Watch it come to life. I'll send you progress photos throughout the painting process and check in to make sure everything looks right. You won't be left wondering, I keep communication open the whole way through.
5. Receive your finished portrait. Once complete and approved by you, your portrait is carefully packaged and shipped. Shipping costs are not included in the base price and will be confirmed at the time of your order. If you are local to Los Angeles, I also offer free delivery or pickup.

Any breed, there are no limits! I've painted golden retrievers, french bulldogs, dachshunds, corgis, Australian shepherds, goldendoodles, German shepherds, pugs, yorkies, shih tzus, labs and more. If you have a mixed breed or a less common breed, don't worry — as long as you have good reference photos, I can paint them.

Absolutely, this is one of my favorite things to do. I can add a hat, bow tie, outfit, glasses, or just about any accessory you can imagine. Clothing and accessory add-ons do affect the final price, so mention what you're thinking when you reach out and I'll factor it into your quote.

On average, a custom dog portrait takes 1–3 months to complete. The timeline depends on the size and complexity of the painting, as well as my current commission queue. I paint on weekends around a full-time job and two kids, so I always appreciate a heads-up if you have a specific deadline, I'll let you know upfront whether it's feasible.

Yes! A custom dog portrait makes one of the most personal, meaningful gifts you can give a dog lover. If you're ordering as a surprise, just let me know your deadline when you reach out and I'll tell you whether we can make it work. A great tip: I can send the progress photos directly to you rather than the recipient so the surprise stays intact.

I need 2–3 high quality photos of your dog, ideally with them looking straight at the camera and taken in good natural light. Avoid heavily filtered or dark photos if you can — the clearer and sharper the image, the better I can capture your dog's unique expressions and personality. If you're not sure whether your photos are good enough, just send them over and I'll let you know.

Yes, absolutely, it would be an honor. Some of the most meaningful commissions I've taken on have been memorial portraits, and I approach each one with extra care. As long as you have good reference photos, I can paint your dog just as beautifully as if they were still here. A hand-painted portrait is a way to keep their memory alive and have something truly special to hold onto. If you've recently lost your dog and would like to commission a memorial portrait, please reach out — I'd love to help you celebrate their life.
